The 1984 Fort Tipperary $1 coin

The 1984 Fort Tipperary $1 coin is the first accidentally-minted edition in the series. Word on the street has it that an observant customer, noting the two-dollar charge for a one-dollar coin, asked why. As it turns out, 1983 was the first year of the two-dollar token, with "TWO DOLLARS" prominently displayed on the obverse. Somehow, the retired "ONE DOLLAR" obverse had reappeared on the 1984 mintage.

5,750 coins were returned to the mint for replacement; 250 of the error coins are still in circulation (or, more likely, in private collections). The 2007 value of this coin is $30.00. [2]
